English Being Replaced By…Different English?Īs mentioned above, there are indeed English words in the original series which, for unknown reasons, were changed to OTHER English words during the dub.

Removing Japanese songs and backing tracks.

This could so easily have been reversed for the dub!

Removing evidence of cultural barriers, including an entire episode where an English speaking character tries communicating with Japanese Akane/Kelsey.

Replacing English words with 'more acceptable’ other English words.

This leads to some odd conversations, and visuals where something is obviously missing.

Removing Japanese foods, both on screen and when talking about food.

Removing Japanese hobbies and activities.

Removing Japanese names and replacing them with 'white’ ones.

Removing Japanese cultural events and references to them - though a handful were left in.

Saban and Netflix claim it makes the series more “child friendly”, yet most of what they removed could have been an educational experience for children, and is hardly difficult to grasp.

OFFENSIVE AND BIZARRE CHANGESĪ major issue with Glitter Force is whitewashing - the removing of cultural references and ‘American/Western-izing’ foreign content. The title is one understandable change - Pretty Cure and Cures are already trademarked in the West, so they had no choice but to choose something else. So if you watched it and enjoyed it, and can’t or don’t want to see the original, that’s totally OK!
